[#TexasPolitics365]

Singer Harry Styles, a citizen of the United Kingdom who cannot vote in Texas elections, appeared to endorse Democrat Beto O'Rourke for Texas governor during a concert at Moody Center in Austin, Fox News and Variety magazine reported.

During the show on Sunday, Styles flashed a "Beto for Texas" sticker on his guitar that the audience was able to see in a close-up on the big screen. Cameras then showed O'Rourke in the crowd clapping with fans of the pop star.

Collier Reveals Two Republican Endorsements

[#TexasPolitics365]

Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor Mike Collier’s campaign said he has met with more than a dozen elected Republican officials and has been publicly endorsed by two.

Collier will have to compete with Republican incumbent Dan Patrick’s campaign war chest and lead in the polls. New polling out this week from the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas at Austin shows Patrick leading by seven percentage points amongst registered voters.

The Democrat was recently endorsed by two Texas Republicans — both of whom are on their way out of office. State Sen. Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo, and Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley said they would be voting for Collier.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Endorses AG Paxton In Runoff

[#TexasPolitics365]

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush was probably hoping that statewide elected officials were going to stay out of the runoff race for Texas Attorney General. And if they didn't stay out, he was for sure hoping to get their support.

But that won't be happening with Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick. Patrick, who did not endorse a candidate prior to Monday, announced his endorsement of Ken Paxton who is seeking reelection as Texas Attorney General.

The announcement came via a press release on Monday morning and was short and to the point. According to a press release from Patrick, "Texans can't find a more ardent defender of the people's rights than Ken Paxton."

Gohmert Says Paxton Lied To Trump To Get Endorsement

[#TexasPolitics365]

Conservative Congressman Louie Gohmert says he called Donald Trump last summer when he heard the former President was thinking about endorsing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

“I suggested that he hold up. I said, ‘I’m even thinking about it if there’s not a better alternative’,” said U.S. Rep. Gohmert.

After the former President endorsed Paxton last July, Gohmert said he didn’t contact Mr. Trump again. But Trump called him.

“He called me and he said, ‘I was told that you were definitely not running before I endorsed.’ Well, I didn’t tell him that. So, it became clear it took a lie, a lie to President Trump that Gohmert’s definitely not running in order to get the endorsement and further re-enforces this Attorney General will do anything and say anything to get what he wants."

Progressive Group Endorses Rep. Cuellar's Primary Opponent

[#TexasPolitics365]

The Sunrise Movement, a progressive Group championing action on climate change, has announced its endorsement of progressive Jessica Cisneros in her primary challenge to oust Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar in Texas' 28th Congressional District.

Human rights and immigration attorney Cisneros in August launched her campaign to primary Cuellar for a second time after she narrowly lost to the incumbent in the 2020 primary election, though newly redrawn maps mean the district now has different boundaries.

Cuellar, who's represented the South Texas district since 2005, has strong backing from the Democratic Party establishment. But progressives note that  he has a 47% lifetime score from the League of Conservation Voters, has been described by the Texas AFL-CIO as "not on working people's side," and was recently criticized by NARAL Pro-Choice America for being "the last anti-choice Democrat in the House."

Founded in 2017 by climate change activist
Varshini Prakash, the Sunshine Movement has made a name for itself by pushing elected Democrats to embrace climate change as a key issue.

[#TexasPolitics365]

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) has thrown his weight behind former State Sen. Don Huffines’ bid to become the next Governor of Texas.

On Thursday, the Huffines campaign released an endorsement video featuring Paul praising Huffines and giving him his endorsement in next year’s race for Governor.

“It is my pleasure to endorse my friend Don Huffines for governor of Texas,” Paul said. “I have known Don for over 20 years. He is a loyal, steadfast fighter for limited, constitutional government. He has been in the thick of every conservative fight since I have known him. He is unafraid to stand up to the establishment. He is someone who will defend our freedoms.”

Sen. Cruz Endorses "Close Friend" Gov. Abbott

[#TexasPolitics365]

US Sen. Ted Cruz gave an emphatic endorsement to Gov. Greg Abbott and his re-election bid.

He said Wednesday about Abbott:

"He campaigned for me, he fought for me. I can tell you very, very simply, if it were not for Greg abbott, I would not be in the US Senate. ... I think primaries are a healthy thing in politics. But I got to say, as for me, I'm gonna vote for Greg Abbott. And to be honest, I think I'd be a disloyal jackass if I didn't vote for him in our two decades of our working side by side."

Cruz's remarks came during a town hall in Grapevine organized by the True Texas Project, a conservative group previously known as the NE Tarrant Tea Party.

The group says over 500 people attended the monthly meeting, which was streamed to over 200 more throughout the state.

An audience member stated that the crowd favors "anyone but Abbott" in 2022 and asked Cruz if he would commit to endorsing one of Abbott's primary challengers or commit to staying out of the primary altogether.

Longer excerpt of the senator's remarks, here:

AG Paxton Gets Trump Endorsement For Re-election Bid

[#TexasPolitics365]

Former Pres. Donald Trump has offered his endorsement to Attorney General Ken Paxton in an email, crediting the attorney general for opposing “vicious and very dangerous Radical Left Democrats” as well as unnamed “foolish and unsuspecting RINOs,” or Republicans In Name Only.

The former president said Paxton is strong on Election Integrity, possibly referencing Paxton’s December lawsuit that sought to invalidate President Joe Biden’s victories in multiple swing states, and his office’s aggressive approach to prosecuting voting-related crimes.

His endorsement overlooks Paxton's opponent, George P. Bush, who has been friendly to the former president, despite him savaging Bush's father Jeb Bush in the 2016 presidential primary election.

On Facebook, Bush reacted by posting, "I’m running for Attorney General because Texans deserve integrity and honesty from the office of Texas’ top law enforcement official. Texans deserve a candidate without a laundry list of existing and potential criminal indictments."

Test of Trump's endorsement is below:

West Not Worried By Trump Endorsement Of Abbott

Outgoing Texas GOP chair and former congressman Allen West insists that former President Trump’s endorsement of Gov. Greg Abbott "doesn’t hurt" his 2022 primary challenge against the two-term Republican governor.

"It has no relevance to me as I prepare to run for governor of Texas," West told Fox News ahead of his speech this weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, Texas.

At the conference, former Pres. Trump reiterated his "complete and total endorsement" of Abbott.

Texans For Lawsuit Reform Backs Guzman For AG

[#TexasPolitics365]

Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Eva Guzman in her campaign for Texas Attorney General, in what will be seen as a politically significant endorsement.

“Eva Guzman is a committed conservative and an accomplished lawyer and judge, whose intellect and strength of character have served Texas well in her two decades of public service,” TLRPAC Chairman Richard J. Trabulsi Jr. said.

"Texans can count on her to run a first-class Attorney General’s Office and to fight encroachment by the federal government on our individual liberties and Texas’ rights under the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution."

Guzman faces incumbent AG Ken Paxton and Land Commissioner George P. Bush in the Republican primary.

Gov. Abbott Wins Trump Re-Election Endorsement

[#TexasPolitics365]

Gov. Greg Abbott has received the endorsement of former president Donald Trump for the governor's re-election bid next year.

He made the statement Tuesday, in an email to supporters of Trump's Save America PAC. In its entirety, it reads:

"Greg Abbott is a fighter and a Great Governor for the indefinite people of Texas. No governor has done more to secure the border and keep our communities safe than Governor Abbott. Greg is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment and has made Texas a Second Amendment sanctuary State. Texas has become a job-creating machine, and our partnership helped restore America's economic power and success. Greg is also very tough on crime, fully supports the brave men and women of Law Enforcement, and is all in on Election Integrity. Governor Greg Abbott will continue to be a great leader for the Lone Star State and has my complete and total endorsement for re-election. He will never let you down!"

The endorsement will not be met with joy by his announced primary opponent, former State Sen. Don Huffines, and his other presumed opponent, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, who is expected to announce in the coming weeks. They are both likely to aggressively seek the approval of conservative Trump voters. That will be complicated by Trump's strong endorsement of Abbott.
