Texas House Bans Death Penalty For The Severely Mentally Ill

In a state where mental illness is prevalent on death row, the Texas House of Representatives has again passed a measure to bar the death penalty for some people with severe mental illnesses.

House Bill 727, by state Rep. Toni Rose, D-Dallas, finally passed the chamber Wednesday on a 97-48 vote, a week after the measure was tentatively passed. The bill’s final version precludes the death penalty for defendants diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

Texas Democrats Want Federal Monitors During Election

With Democrats panicking just days before what is expected to be a Republican tsunami at the polls, they’re pulling out every device in their bag of tricks to stave it off.

In Texas, this effort may take the form of direct intervention in the election by the now hyper-weaponized Biden Justice Department in Harris County, America’s third-largest county, which is home to Houston, America’s fourth-largest city. There, the Justice Department has been asked by the local Democratic machine to intervene in the November election by sending federal monitors.
