Gov. Abbott Will Pardon Soldier Who Killed BLM Protester Who Threatened Him With Shotgun

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott promised Saturday to pardon a US Army sergeant a day after he was convicted of shooting a protester to death during a Black Lives Matter rally.

The Republican said Sgt. Daniel Perry, 35, was acting in his own defense when he repeatedly fired his handgun on 28-year-old Garrett Foster as he marched in the July 25, 2020 Austin demonstration after Foster aimed a Shotgun at him.

Two Texas Democrat Lawmakers Arrested In DC At Protest

Texas State Rep. Ron Reynolds and U.S. Rep. Al Green were both arrested Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol while demonstrating for federal voting legislation.

The two Democratic lawmakers were at a rally organized by the National Clergy United for Justice that civil rights activists Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton also attended.

#Texas Politicians Show Support For Cuban Demonstrators

Texas political leaders are showing out in support of Cubans protesting their Communist government.

Gov. Greg Abbott, who visited the country in 2015, told Breitbart he favored greater economic ties with the nation.

“For decades, the Cuban people have suffered under an oppressive, communist regime that has deprived them of the freedoms we cherish in America,” Abbott said in a statement to Breitbart Texas. “I visited Cuba in 2015 to pry open a window into the opportunities and values that come with freedom and free enterprise. Opening economic ties with the Cuban people could have paved a path out of the poverty I witnessed."

Sen. Ted Cruz, whose father emigrated from Cuba, has repeatedly spoken out strongly in favor of America supporting the uprisings.

On Saturday, Cruz tweeted:

"To the people of Cuba, we stand with you. The American people stand with you. We hear you. We see you. And when you cry for liberty, we stand with you against the evil Cuban communist dictatorship."

Rep. Michael McCaul also tweeted his support, while condemning Black Lives Matters' support for the communist regime, which has been widely condemned by conservatives.

"While black Cuban activists are beaten by the regime and languish in prison cells, Marxists shamefully ignore their calls for freedom. 

Cuban’s have widely rejected the communist dictatorship and we admire their brave efforts. #PatriaYVida"

Legislature's Democrats Walk On Final Day; Gov. Candidate Huffines Blames Abbott After Election Integrity Bill Fails

Democrats in the state House of Representatives walked out of the chamber Sunday night, creating a lack of quorum on the last full day of the legislative session.

The procedural move killed debate and voting on Senate Bill 7, the bill Republicans hoped would reform election law.

Gov. Greg Abbott says he will call a special session to handle the legislation that didn't pass in the regular session. the state legislature only meets every other year in Texas.

Abbott's announced primary challenger, former State Sen. Don Huffines, urged him to do so, and placed the blame for SB 7's failure squarely on his shoulders.

"A critical Bill like this can only fail in a republican-led chamber when there is failure of leadership from the governor of Texas," Huffines said, in a statement posted on Twitter.

Democrats, from local state party officials to Pres. Biden in Washington, viciously attacked the bill as "wrong and un-American," in the days leading up to the walk out, calling it a "voter suppression bill."

Meanwhile, Abbott is likely to get another challenger when state Ariculture Commissioner Sid Miller announces a bid for governor in the coming weeks. Miller has been loudly critical of Abbott's performance in office.
