Republican Wins 15th Congressional Seat For First Time

For the first time in its history, Texas’ 15th Congressional District will be represented by a Republican.

Monica De La Cruz won her bid to represent the district Tuesday in the traditionally Democratic stronghold of South Texas.

GOP Congressional Candidate Witnesses O'Rourke Violating Election Law At Polling Place

Republican Candidate For Congress #MonicaDeLaCruz (@monica4congress) Caught @BetoORourke Red-Handed Illegally Electioneering At A Polling Location In #SanJuan #Texas inside the restricted polling markers outside a polling place in front of the San Juan public library. 

A video posted on Twitter showed De La Cruz angrily denouncing O'Rourke's speech inside the restricted zone to an unidentified person on the telephone, and to polling site officials.

Both Congressional Candidates Face Challenges In South Texas Race

In Texas’ most competitive congressional race this November, conventional wisdom would suggest that the candidates make their way toward the middle.

Democrats face the  challenge of running a far left candidate, Michelle Vallejoin the newly drawn South Texas district that would have voted for former President Donald Trump by 2.8 percentage points in 2020, and massive infusions of cash from national Republicans hoping to tap into the area’s economic concerns amid record inflation. Meanwhile, Republicans will be pitching a conservative Hispanic Republican woman, Monica De La Cruzin a Hispanic-majority region that has delivered Democrats victories for decades.

Congressional Candidate Accused Of Abusing Step-Daughter

A congressional candidate has been accused by her ex-husband of abusing his daughter, reports The Hill.

Monica De La Cruz, a Republican running for the 15th Congressional District, is seen as a top choice for the South Texas seat among GOP leadership.

Johnny Hernandez, De La Cruz's husband, accused her in court filings for the couple's divorce of abusing his 14-year-old daughter, The Washington Post reported.

The couple have no biological children together, with Hernandez's daughter being from a previous relationship.

After incumbent 15th District Rep. Vicente Gonzalez announced he will seek reelection in a different congressional district, Democrats have struggled to find candidates to run for the seat he is vacating.

Edinburg Republican To Contest November Congressional Election Loss

Monica De La Cruz believes she won the Nov. 2020 election for the 15th Congressional District.

She has filed an official complaint alleging voting discrepancies in the race, which was officially declared for her opponent, Democrat Vicente Gonzalez, a McAllen attorney, reports everythinglubbock.com

De La Cruz, an Edinburg Republican, lost to Gonzalez, the incumbent, by approximately 6,500 votes, 47.6% to 50.5%.

“I am calling into question this vote difference and the validity of the Gonzalez win,” said De La Cruz.

The 15th Congressional District includes Brooks, Duval, Jim Hogg, Karnes, and Live Oak counties and parts of Guadalupe, Hidalgo and Wilson counties.
