[#TexasPolitics365]

On Thursday, small business owner and “accomplished health industry leader” Julie Clark announced in a press release the unveiling of what her campaign is calling the district's first TV ad of next year’s election cycle.

Gonzales was recently censured by the Republican Party of Texas for his support for liberal gun control legislation and his vocal opposition to Republican border security plans.

Rep. Gonzalez Says Republicans Politicizing Border Crisis

[#TexasPolitics365]

U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, accused his fellow Republicans of politicizing the border for their own benefit, further escalating his standoff with more conservative members of his party who he said stood to gain from a sustained migration conflict.

“Anyone who thinks a 3 page anti-immigration bill with 0% chance of getting signed into law is going to solve the border crisis should be buying beach front property in AZ,” Gonzales tweeted Thursday night in an apparent reference to border legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Austin.

Texas Congressman Wants Homeland Chief Impeached

[#TexasPolitics365]

A Texas Republican has filed articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, wasting little time in the new Congress to act on a GOP priority leadership has said would come after thorough investigation.

Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas) filed the paperwork for the resolution on Jan. 3, the first day of the 118th Congress, though with delays in securing a House Speaker, the document was officially filed late Monday.

Abbott Hands Letter To Biden During Border Visit: "You Failed"

[#TexasPolitics365]

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott hand-delivered a scathing message to President Biden Sunday as the commander-in-chief arrived in El Paso for his first visit to the US-Mexico border since taking office.

Biden spends only three hours in El Paso in first border visit as president
Letters to the Editor — Jan. 7, 2023
“Your visit to our southern border with Mexico today is $20 billion too little and two years too late,” Abbott said in a letter he handed to Biden as he stepped off Air Force One for a brief three-hour visit to El Paso, KWTX-TV reported.

“Moreover, your visit avoids the sites where mass illegal immigration occurs and sidesteps the thousands of angry Texas property owners whose lives have been destroyed by your border policies,” the letter reads.

Texas Democrat Says Immigration System Is Outdated, Border Used As "Prop"

[#TexasPolitics365]

Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) said in an interview ahead of President Biden’s planned trip to the southern border that immigration policies and infrastructure in the U.S. are “outdated.”

“What we are seeing … is an historic refugee crisis in our Western Hemisphere, and our infrastructure is outdated,” Escobar said on CBS News’s “Face The Nation.” “Our processes are outdated, and the border has for too long been used as a political prop,” Escobar said. “We all have to come together and solve this once and for all.”

Abbott Fires Back At Biden, Media Criticism Of Migrant Busing

[#TexasPolitics365]

Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday pushed back against the White House's criticism of him busing more migrants to Washington, D.C., over the weekend -- where they arrived outside Vice President Kamala Harris' home on Christmas Eve.

"The White House is full of a bunch of hypocrites, led by the Hypocrite-in-Chief .... Instead of their hypocritical complaints about Texas providing much-needed relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities, President Biden and Border Czar Harris need to step up and do their jobs to secure the border—something they continue failing to do," Renae Eze, a spokesperson for Abbott, said in a statement.

Former Texas Congressman Hurd Wants Homeland Security Chief Fired

[#TexasPolitics365]

CNN hosts Don Lemon and Kaitlan Collins clashed with former Republican lawmaker Will Hurd on Monday while discussing the border crisis and the end to Title 42.

Hurd, who represented a Texas border district in Congress, said President Biden's border policy was worse than former President Trump's.

"This crisis has escalated under him. There’s other ways to do expedited removal. You also have a Title 8 authority, and what a new secretary of Homeland Security should be coming in saying ‘Listen, we’re going to use Title 8 authority to the same level that we’re using Title 42.’"

Hurd also suggested Biden get rid of border security officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, because of a lack of "credibility."

Thousands Flood Texas Border Days Before Law Change

[#TexasPolitics365]

Officials in El Paso, Texas, a border city that has seen an increase in migrants crossing over into the United States from Mexico, told city leaders on Monday that the numbers of people illegally crossing into the city "are unsustainable," days before Title 42 is set to expire.

El Paso Deputy City Manager Mario D'Agostino was speaking to the City Council when he laid out the latest migrant figures. He said the city was seeing an average of 2,500 apprehensions daily. Over the weekend, the Border Patrol's El Paso Sector saw a daily average of more than 2,400 migrants.

Texas Republicans In Congress Unveil Border Security Plan

[#TexasPolitics365]

The Texas Republican delegation in the US House unveiled a new border security proposal to push back on White House assertions that the GOP has no 'plan' to fix the southern border.

The framework, which is made up of both legislation their delegation has already introduced and new proposals as Republicans prepare to take the House, is split up into four categories: completing the border wall, fixing border enforcement policies, enforcing laws in the interior, and targeting cartels.

Texas Democrats Had High Hopes, But Again Face Time Of Introspection

[#TexasPolitics365]

The odds were more stacked than usual against Texas Democrats this election cycle, with an unpopular president from their party going against them. Yet there was still hope and cautious optimism within the party that if anyone could pull off the upset, it would be Beto O’Rourke.

At a minimum, he could give a repeat performance of his 2018 matchup against U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, where he came close enough to defeating the Republican — less than 3 percentage points — that Democrats could convincingly make the case that Texas is a battleground state worthy of national attention and investment.

Instead, O'Rourke, the most promising Texas Democrat in recent history, got walloped by Gov. Greg Abbott by 11 percentage points, and every other statewide candidate lost by double digits.

Democrat Talking Points on Immigration "Lies From Pit Of Hell" Says Congressional Candidate

[#TexasPolitics365]

Speaking on Fox News, Irene Armendariz-Jackson – who is running to represent El Paso in Congress – torched the narrative from Democrats that cracking down on illegal immigration is anti-Hispanic.

"That is a lie from the pit of hell and that's exactly where it belongs. If the Democrats really cared about the Hispanic population in the United States, they would actually control the border and bring border security," she told Brian Kilmeade.
