GOP Congressman Faces Backlash for Gun Vote

[#TexasPolitics365]

After the Uvalde school shooting, the Republican congressman who represents the city, Tony Gonzales, welcomed Democratic President Joe Biden to the community. They visited Robb Elementary together, attended mass at a local church and met with first responders.

Gonzales expressed gratitude, saying afterward that they “had an open, honest conversation about the realities this community is facing.”

That, and his vote to support gun restrictions in Congress, have led to a backlash among Republicans who previously had supported him enthusiastically.

O'Rourke Swears At Heckler Laughing At His Call For Stricter Gun Laws

[#TexasPolitics365]

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke dropped an 'F-bomb' while addressing a heckler during his talk about the tragic Uvalde school shooting. The man in question reportedly laughed as the former congressman addressed the massacre that took place in late May 2022.

Beto O’Rourke has been vocal about his criticism of local officials over their response to the school shooting and their failure to impose stricter gun control law that O'Rourke and other Democrats have been pushing.

At the venue, O'Rourke again expressed his campaign's position for stricter gun control laws and regulations when an individual in the crowd holding an Abbott sign laughed at him. O'Rourke and angrily reorted, "It may be funny to you, mother f*cker, but it’s not funny to me.”

Media Tout Donor Letter As Proof Of GOP Revolt Over Guns

[#TexasPolitics365]

Mass media is touting the fact that several Republican donors, including some that have contributed to Gov. Greg Abbott’s campaigns, joined other conservative Texans in signing an open letter supporting congressional action to increase gun restrictions in response to the mass shooting in Uvalde that left 19 children and two teachers dead last week.

Those gun restrictions allegedly include red flag laws and extensive background checks, both of which are opposed by a majority of conservative voters in Texas.

These are among the proposals of US senator John Cornyn, who has won the praise of President Biden for being a "reasonable Republican" on the gun issue by proposing gun control legislation.

[#TexasPolitics365]

In the wake of the tragic school shooting in South texas, which cost the lives of 21 students, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa has issued a call for a special session of the State legislature to ban assault rifles.

Hinojosa release the following statement on the Democratic party's website:

“Not one more child. Not one more teacher. Not one more Texan. We’re proud of our Democratic Leaders for standing up to Greg Abbott’s lies every chance they get, and the Texas Democratic Party joins their call for a special session to ban assault weapons and pass life-saving legislation to end gun violence in Texas.”

Since the attack on Robb Elementary School, Democrats have thought to use the tragedy to attack Republicans for "doing nothing." Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke interrupted a news conference being held by Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and other officials to demand "action."

[#TexasPolitics365]
