Republican Officials Call For Removal of Now-Candidate West As State Party Chair

Republican officials from 16 counties, including the heads of the Travis and Williamson county parties, pressed Tuesday for the immediate removal of Allen West as chairman of the state GOP.

They argue that under the party's bylaws, West — who announced that he is running for governor on Sunday — cannot serve as party leader while seeking statewide office. West announced his resignation last month but said it would be effective this coming Sunday, when his replacement will be chosen.

Susan Wright Gets GOP Endorsement To Succeed Husband In Congress

Susan Wright, the wife of late congressman Ron Wright, has received an important endorsement to replace him in a special election.

The state Republican executive committee (SREC) has voted 43 to 9, with 7 abstentions, to endorse Wright for the District 6 US House seat, which is being contested by 10 Democrats and 11 Republicans.

Wright, who has a history of Republican party activism, tweeted her gratitude for the endorsement, which will likely give her a serious advantage in the race.
