Jane Nelson, the longest-serving Republican in the state senate, announced yesterday she would not seek re-election next year.
Nelson, who was first elected in 1992, has served as chair of the Senate Finance Committee for four terms, noting in her announcement yesterday that the final budget passes through her committee unanimously.
“I promised to listen, work hard, and deliver results and have strived to fulfill that pledge. Our accomplishments have improved the lives of Texans, which makes me proud," she said, in her statement.
