Former State Sen. Huffines Enters Primary Against Gov. Abbott

Former Republican State Sen. Don Huffines has announced his candidacy for governor against Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022. 

In a tweet Monday, Huffines laid out his platform.

"Together we will finish the wall, lower our taxes, and protect our elections. 

It’s past time to root out corruption in the Austin swamp.

Leadership. No excuses. (An Actual Republican)"

In the accompanying video, the Dallas native said he would work to eliminate property taxes. 

“For too long, Texas has been let down by politicians who offer nothing but excuses and lies,” he said in a written statement. “Our border is still wide open. Property taxes keep going up. And our election laws continue to be ignored. Plain and simple, our politicians aren’t getting things done, and Texans have rightfully run out of patience.”
